German language course B1 and B2: What to expect?

B1 and B2 levels of German belong to the intermediate level according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

If you want to live independently in Germany, these levels are essential — not only for everyday communication, but also for that amazing feeling when you finally know what’s going on around you.

At this level, you can truly enjoy the culture around you. For example, you can go to the cinema and laugh because you understand the joke — not just out of politeness.

You’ll also start catching the subtle nuances of German humor, your boss’s bad jokes, and all those funny situations that used to fly right over your head.

At the B1 level, you’ll learn how to comfortably follow longer texts and conversations on familiar topics such as work, family, travel, and education. You’ll be able to understand the main ideas of articles, ads, and announcements — and even take part in basic discussions.

This level prepares you for relaxed communication in everyday situations. You’ll be able to talk about your experiences, future plans, and express your opinions — supported by explanations and arguments.

You’ll also master more complex grammar structures such as Konjunktiv II (to express wishes and hypothetical situations), passive voice, relative clauses, and the difference between formal and informal language. These tools will help you express yourself more precisely and with confidence.

At the B2 level, you enter the zone where you begin to understand more complex texts and situations — even when dealing with abstract or professional topics. Movies, TV shows, and longer discussions? No problem. You’ll follow them without constantly thinking: “What does that mean?”

This level enables you to engage in real, spontaneous conversations. You’ll be able to discuss topics in depth, express and defend your opinions with arguments, and analyze what others are saying.

Grammar-wise, you’ll master advanced structures such as complex passive constructions, reported speech, and more demanding subordinate clauses. This gives you the power to speak and write accurately and fluently.

And vocabulary? You’ll expand into academic, professional, and abstract topics.

As for grammar, here you master advanced things like complex passive sentences, indirect speech and more complicated dependent clauses. This gives you the power to write and speak accurately and without error.

And vocabulary? It is the turn of words from academic, professional and abstract topics.

What can you achieve with a B1 and B2 German language certificate?

Professional opportunities

B1 and B2 levels open the door to jobs where intermediate or advanced knowledge of the German language is required. These include positions in administration, tourism, sales, health care and technical sectors. B2 level is often a prerequisite for jobs where communication in German is everyday.

Studies and specializations

For studies in Germany or other German-speaking areas, the B2 level is often the minimum requirement. With this level you can follow lectures, write essays and actively participate in discussions.

Immigration and integration

To apply for residence permits or to acquire citizenship, a B1 or B2 level is often required. These levels show that you have sufficient language skills to integrate into society.
