Nowadays, there are free and effective online tools that can significantly facilitate the process of learning the German language. Whether you are a beginner who has yet to speak or an advanced German speaker, these tools will help you improve your language skills. Here, "German Everywhere" will list free and effective online ways to learn German, some of them may be familiar to you to a greater or lesser extent, but taking a look won't cost you anything, and it can be helpful:

Duolingo

Duolingo is a popular language app that non few have heard of, and offers interactive German language lessons through games and exercises. This platform is adapted to different skill levels and provides useful feedback to track your progress. It is mostly free but also offers a premium service. I personally really like the colorful user interface, funny characters

and a happy or sad Owl Duo, who will always rejoice at your every success.

Deutsche Welle - Learn German

Deutsche Welle is a German media service that provides excellent resources for learning German. Their "Learn German" course includes free audio, video and text materials, and covers all skill levels. Deutsche Welle covers a wide range of entertainment content

of which I would recommend the comprehensive Nicos Weg, which will take you all the way to B1 or the interactive content Harry, gefangen in der Zeit (Harry trapped in time) and learning through the songs in their program "Deine Band" is also recommended. Deutsche Welle has a section called "Top Thema mit Vokabeln" which provides video news in German with transcripts and vocabulary. This is a great way to improve your listening skills and expand your vocabulary.

BBC Languages - German

BBC Languages offers a range of free resources for learning German, including audio lessons, videos and interactive exercises. The materials are suitable for beginners, but also provide challenges for those with more experience. This is less known in our speaking area, but whoever wants to change a little, can try and see how the British teach German.

Memrise

Memrise combines memory techniques with a fun approach to language learning. With the German language course on Memrise, you can learn new words and phrases through pictures, sound and interactive exercises. The advantage is that it is oriented towards everyday speech and does not look for patterns to learn. Duolingo and Memrise complement each other very well.

Busuu

Busuu is a language learning social network that allows users to practice German with native speakers. In addition, the platform offers concise grammar exercises, a dictionary and the ability to chat directly with other users, which is the main difference compared to the two biggest competitors mentioned above.

Anki and Talkpal

Anki is a free platform for repeating and learning words and phrases. You can use Anki flashcards to learn German, and the customisable system allows you to focus on areas that challenge you. The idea behind TalkPal AI is to talk to a virtual teacher. It's incredibly intuitive and you'll feel like you're improving in no time. TalkPal is designed for individuals who already have a basic understanding of their chosen language and want to improve their skills further. They have tons of different modes to play and that you can enjoy.

Good luck learning German!
