Podcasts as a Tool in Learning German!

One way to learn a foreign language, which can be a useful addition to a course or individual lessons, is listening to podcasts. Adding this activity to your learning process is an ideal way, because it does not require a specific time or place, and the phone and headphones are always at hand. Remember that by listening to podcasts you are:


  1. Exposed to the natural language: Podcasts make it possible to listen to the German language in its natural environment. This helps students get used to the pronunciation, intonation and rhythm of the language as native speakers use it.

  2. Exposed to a variety of topics: There is a wide range of German-language podcasts covering a variety of topics - from everyday conversations, sports, entertainment, to interesting topics, perhaps even in your field.

  3. It's flexible and accessible: Podcasts can be listened to anywhere, anytime – while traveling, exercising or doing housework. This makes learning more practical and easier to fit into everyday life.

  4. Different levels of difficulty: There are podcasts tailored to different skill levels, from beginners to advanced learners. So you can find content that suits your current level and gradually move to more difficult content as you progress.

  5. Authentic materials: Listening to podcasts in German allows contact with authentic materials, which helps in better understanding the culture and customs of German-speaking countries.

  6. Listening practice: Regularly listening to podcasts improves listening skills. "Hoerverstehen", which are crucial for understanding spoken language and conducting conversations.

This podcast uses a slower speaking pace to help beginners understand German better. Anik Rubens deals with everyday topics from Germany


cuisine and the European football championship until "Sunday as a day without using a car" Autofreier Sonntag. He also has an outstanding youtube channel.


Coffee Break German:




Excellent for students at a more advanced entry level A2 or beginning B1. The lessons are structured, deal with grammar and cover the basics of the language through conversations and exercises.







Deutsch – warum nicht?:


We've already talked about Deutsche Welle's great platform for learning German, and now we're going to introduce their podcast. This podcast is intended for students with intermediate language skills and follows the story of a person learning German through everyday situations.




Deutschlandfunk Nova - Hörsaal:


This podcast offers lectures and conversations on a variety of academic and social topics, ideal for advanced learners who want to improve their listening and understanding of more complex topics.

Easy German:


The podcast uses authentic conversations with people on the streets of Germany. Episodes are frequent accompanied by transcripts and translations, which is useful for all levels and mostly in all courses this platform is recommended. They also have a very nice YouTube channel and are very popular.




Deutsch Perfekt


This podcast offers content tailored to different skill levels, with topics covering everyday life, culture and language tips. The magazines of the same name in PDF edition are a great learning supplement for all those at higher B2-C1 levels.
